The Best Pools of 2018

From lush resort-style settings to epic infinity-edge wonders, Australia really upped its pool game this year.

There’s nothing much Australians love doing more in their summer holidays than lazing around a body of water – especially when it’s part of an architecturally-designed entertaining space that overlooks an idyllic vista.

We’ve taken it upon ourselves to pick a few of our absolute favourites.

1. Bonnie’s forever home, built around a pool

Three Birds Renovations never fail to wow and this year’s project was no different.

For her forever home, Bonnie didn’t hold back on the family-sized renovation of her beach-meets-country home in Sydney.

But what we loved the most was that the entire concept was created around a resort-style outdoor entertaining area with a massive pool.

After such a colossal undertaking, we think Bonnie deserves a bit of pool time herself.

2. A Palm Springs-themed pool setting

Heading down south, we couldn’t get enough of this mid-century-themed Mornington Peninsula home.

An award-winning renovation undertaken by interior designer and SJB director Andrew Parr, this home demonstrates a love of colour and takes inspiration from the mid-century builds dotted around the Hollywood Hills.

The pool setting is a Palm Springs-lover’s dream, with full-sized succulents paying homage to the unique Californian desert.

Created with parties and entertaining in mind, the space offers easy access to the laundry-turned-bar and boasts plenty of seating and sun loungers.

3. A pool with a view

With a sublime pool panorama looking out onto Swan River and Perth’s skyline, this six-bedroom, 842sqm home on exclusive Saunders Street captures magnificent sunrises, sunsets and cruising yachts.

Arguably the home’s pièce de résistance, the outdoor space includes a pretty terraced garden, a water fountain and the most magnificent sparkling blue infinity pool in which to relax and watch the world pass by.

It’s contemporary style and luxe living at its best.

4. A resort-style Doonan Glasshouse

The Doonan Glasshouse seems to simply float among its surroundings.

The outdoor bath and shower and huge poolside entertaining areas only add to the holiday feeling.

5. Infinity edge at Darling Point

It’s hard to beat unrestricted harbour views, but this epic home in Darling Point proves that it’s possible.

The home’s luxury heated infinity pool with spa overlooks one of Sydney’s best vantages and comes complete with limestone terraces, grand windows and a boat shed with two jetties.

6. A waterfall heaven in Byron Bay

Known as ‘Whalewatchers’, this four-bedroom home combines luxurious living with the laid-back lifestyle that Byron Bay is celebrated for.

Tropical landscaping and a waterfall that feeds into a raised spa creates a resort-like aesthetic. And a seamless flow between indoor and outdoor living captures beautiful afternoon sea breezes and showcases some of the area’s best views.

It’s the perfect place to unwind with a cocktail or two, and what could be more Byron than that?
